Pyramids & Saqqara

After breakfast at the hotel, embark on a coach ride to Giza with your Egyptologist for a tour of the great pyramids and Sphinx, Sole survivors from the ancient Greek-listed Seven Wonders of the World. Then enter Khufu museum and see the pharaohs painstakingly restored sun boat museum that archaeologist unearthed beside the great pyramids of Khufu in 1954. Afterward we enjoy a camel ride across the desert sands. After a delightful lunch, proceed with your Egyptologist to the ancient capital of old Egypt Memphis. It was founded by king Menes, proceed to the step pyramids at Saqqara which was designed by the architect Imhotep, the pharaoh’s chief architect in 2700for his master king Zoser.

The Egyptian Museum & Old Cairo

Today we embark on a guided tour of the Egyptian Museum, acclaimed for the treasures of King Tutankhamen and his famous solid gold funerary mask. You can also see the royal Mummy room, where nine mummified bodies of ancient royals are on display and learn about the culture and art of mummification in ancient Egypt. If you wish to visit the Royal room, you will need to purchase a separate ticket. After lunch we explore Coptic Cairo to see Ben Ezra Synagogue and the Hanging Church, then wander through the famous lively Khan El Khalili Bazaar, displaying jewelry and antiques.

Philae Temple & the mighty High dam

Arrive into Aswan and check into your hotel. Drive out to the mighty High Dam – a modern feat of engineering – creating the world’s largest artificial lake, Lake Nasser! This afternoon’s highlight is a leisurely boat trip to Agilika Island for the awesome and romantic Philae temple, which is devoted to the two goddesses Isis and Hathor, and the largest known ancient obelisk, the Unfinished Obelisk. Evening free to shop in the colorful souks and markets or simply relax and watch an amazing sunset.
At midnight we depart by coach to the Grand Temples of Abu Simbel (approximate journey time 4 hours) and wait the first rays of golden sunlight, which will touch the temple gate signifying the start of the Sun Festival of the mighty King Ramses II.

Sun festival – Temple of King Ramses II, Abu Simbel

Abu simbel temples are arguably considered the most impressive ancient sites in Egypt, the two rock temples of Abu Simbel were constructed and dedicated to King Ramses II and are an incredible sight to behold. The other rock cut temple at Abu Simbel is the Temple of Hathor, which is fronted by six massive standing statues. Four of them represent King Ramses II, the other two are of his beloved wife – Queen Nefertari.
In a fit of architectural wisdom and egotism, Ramses II had the entire temple carefully angled and oriented in order that the sun’s rays would align twice a year on his date of ascension to the throne (21 February) and on his birthday (21 October) and illuminate the inner sanctum of the temple.
In 1972 the temple was re-located further up from the shoreline of Lake Nasser. For this reason, the sun now strikes a day later than Ramses had originally planned.
We return to Aswan for check-in aboard our Nile 5 star cruiser. Lunch on board; later we take a felucca boat journey to Elephantine and Kitchener Island.

Kom Ombo & Edfu temple

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast on board y as you continue cruising the river, en route to Kom Ombo. Disembark and explore the lovely Greco-Roman temple dedicated to Haroeris (the Sun God) and Sobek (the Crocodile God). Afterward, return to your vessel for lunch as the cruise sails for Edfu, visit Temple of Horus with its menacing black stone statue of the falcon god. Built in the time of Cleopatra about 2,000 years ago.

Valley of the Kings

Early birds can opt to float over Luxor in a hot air balloon first thing this morning before the visit to the valley of kings. This morning; your journey takes you to the famous Valley of the Kings and Queens, where over 60 tombs have been discovered. Afterward, pause by the lovely terraced funerary temple of Queen Hatshepsut, Egypt’s first female pharaoh, and pass by the fabled Colossi of Memnon. Following lunch on board, we’ll have refreshing and rest time before exploring the vast temple complex of Karnak. Lose yourself in the forest of stone papyrus columns in the huge Hypostle Hall. Karnak is an awesome, lasting legacy of the power of ancient Egypt. Continue to the strikingly graceful Temple of Luxor, built by Amenhotep III, Tutankhamon, and Ramses II during their respective reigns and dedicated to the God Amun .
